Lightning: Customize SOAP Note Layout

SOAP Note layouts control which fields and sections your team sees when viewing or editing SOAP Notes in Salesforce. Many SOAP Note fields may already exist in your org and only need to be added to the page layout.

Steps to Customize a SOAP Note Layout

1. Open Setup

Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of Salesforce, then click Setup.

Step 1 - Click the gear icon

Step 1 - Click Setup

2. Open Object Manager

From Setup, click the Object Manager tab.

Step 2 - Open Object Manager

3. Search for SOAP Note

Use the Object Manager search box to find SOAP Note, then open the SOAP Note object.

Step 3 - Search for SOAP Note

Step 3 - Open SOAP Note

4. Open Page Layouts

In the left sidebar for the SOAP Note object, click Page Layouts.

Step 4 - Open Page Layouts

5. Edit the layout

Find the layout you want to update, then click the layout name or choose Edit from the row actions.

Step 5 - Open the page layout

6. Review the current layout

Look through the existing sections and fields to decide what needs to be added, moved, renamed, or removed.

7. Add fields

Use the layout editor field palette to search for the field you need. Drag the field from the palette onto the layout.

If you do not see the field you need, confirm that the field has already been created on the SOAP Note object.

Step 7 - Add a field

8. Add sections

To create a new grouping of fields, drag Section from the layout editor palette onto the layout. Give the section a clear name so providers can quickly understand what belongs there.

Step 8 - Add a section

9. Move or remove fields and sections

Drag fields or sections to rearrange them. To remove an item from the layout, drag it back to the layout editor palette.

Removing a field from the layout does not delete the field or its data. It only hides the field from that page layout.

Step 9 - Remove fields or sections

10. Preview the layout

Click Quick Save, then use Preview As to check how the layout appears for a user profile such as System Administrator.

Step 10 - Preview the layout

11. Save your changes

When the layout looks correct, click Save.

Your updated SOAP Note layout will now be used by records assigned to that page layout.

Troubleshooting

If users do not see the updated layout, check the SOAP Note object's Page Layout Assignment settings. The user may be assigned to a different layout based on profile or record type.
